So, fresh on the heals of last week's news that is considering targeted advertisements and more VC investment, today we learn that they have a paid subscription model in the works.

techcrunch.com/2024/12/09/blue

This should not come as a surprise to anyone. Bluesky is burning through money, and their only options at this point are monetizing their user base through ads, subscriptions and data harvesting, and/or more outside investment. Probably they'll need all these enshitifying tactics.

Transparenz und Dezentralität bei Bluesky: Realität oder Illusion?

Bluesky zieht Millionen an, doch wachsen Zweifel an Transparenz und Dezentralität. Kritiker hinterfragen die Eigentümerstruktur und langfristige Unabhängigkeit.

Anyone here use multiple social platform/protocols? I'm pretty content with but I'm seeing a lot of chat about and even .

I've tried searching for articles explaining the difference/pros/cons of each but I'm getting overwhelmed with all the different things. So many things.

I must be getting old, because I'm getting to the point where I cant be fucked anymore. I use and . Lets cool it with the protocols for a hot minute.

In this searing investigative report on , @davetroy asks how are the users flocking there safe from EXACTLY THE SAME THING that happened at Twitter/X?

america2.news/without-sky-soci

"Notably, Musk has not made any mention of Bluesky and the exodus of some 20 million people from X. In the past, he has railed against Threads and Substack. This time... crickets. It's as if he has a plan in mind to use Bluesky to his advantage. Perhaps he intends to buy it. We don't know. Plan accordingly."

are there any snac users that are successfully following someone on bluesky via bridge? I'm just wanting to verify that it's working before I tell friends on bluesky how to bridge their account. Any recommended accounts to follow that are already bridged?

If you find yourself wishing you could follow accounts without having to actually use it, try using an RSS reader.

They added RSS to each account a while ago and you can follow any public account that way.

“I will never again devote my energies to building up an audience on a platform whose management can sever my relationship to that audience at will.”

This is a very good piece from Cory Doctorow (@pluralistic) on fishing the button and pushing it partnering with crypto gifts and this is also proving why although I have a account, I'm really not into it due to the fact that they can collapse at any time plus not fully federating is a problem.

This section of the piece is one of the major reasons why Cory (@pluralistic), me, and many others are very skeptical of : the inability to leave it and go to another server or service.

That's .

Bluesky lacks the one federated feature that is absolutely necessary for me to trust it: the ability to leave Bluesky and go to another host and continue to talk to the people I've entered into community with there. While there are many independently maintained servers that provide services to Bluesky and its users, there is only one Bluesky server. A federation of multiple servers, each a peer to the other, has been on Bluesky's roadmap for as long as I've been following it, but they haven't (yet) delivered it.

It gets even worse for .

Here's two good threads on the platform's ownership and it's basically a must-read.

Mark my words: is coming in 2-4 years since they need to find ways to make money plus the reasons at the start of this thread makes is a ticking time bomb waiting to happen, much like the dead birdsite.
